New Endoscopic Staging of Nasal Polyps

Hình ảnh
Nasal Polyposis is a chronic inflammatory process of the nasal mucosa, characterized by multiple and bilateral nasal polyps. It is a chronic inflammatory process of the nasal mucosa, characterized by the presence of multiple and bilateral nasal polyps. Its pathophysiology is still unclear, with numerous theories described in the literature. Different drugs have been used in its treatment. In order to study the results of different treatment modalities it is necessary to have some kind of staging.Recent study to present a new endoscopic staging method, based on nasal endoscopy and on the three-dimensional nasal polyp assessment; and compare its reproducibility with that from two other systems already established in the literature.  Three experts assessed the exams of 20 patients with nasal polyposis at different times, before, at 15 and at 30 days after the start of oral prednisone, 1mg/kg/day, during 7 days. The researchers assessed the agreement rate among the experts, using Kappa for

What is Chronic Rhinosinusitis and Nasal Polyps ?

Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is a complex heterogeneous disease with different phenotypes and endotypes. Recent advances in understanding of the pathogenetic mechanisms of CRS endotypes have led to the introduction of effective biologic agents for CRS management.Other phenotypes of CRS are fungal rhinosinusitis (including invasive and noninvasive subtypes), infectious rhinosinusitis, aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease, cystic fibrosis, pediatric CRS, and CRS associated with systemic diseases.  Chronic rhinosinusitis is an inflammatory process of the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses, presenting with two phenotypes that differ in symptoms and inflammatory profiles: either with or without polyps. Natural killer (NK) cells are involved in both the innate and acquired immune response, and their function may be limited under pathological conditions, leading to polyp formation.  Recent study determined NK cell involvement and maturity in chronic rhinosinusitis, b
